Stockpile Grazing CalculatorStockpile grazing is a multi-faceted approach to grazing mature forages. It is highly effective if there are plants that need to set seed to ensure their continued populations, and a back-up plan if a drought occur, for example.
Some Notes On Using This Calculator:
The stockpile grazing calculator is very similar to the summer-grazing calculators, except that we treat the pasture forages as stored forages (as with crop-residue grazing, corn grazing, swath grazing, and bale grazing).
Utilization rates are similar to those of pasture-based calculators, where the desired amount of forage for animals to consume is around 50% of the available forage. Even if you’re grazing old, dead forage that isn’t going to grow back until spring, it’s important to leave enough soil armour behind to protect both the soil and the plant crowns beneath.
