Forage management covers a wide variety of topics. Ruminants (and equines) have a diverse diet and various nutritional needs. This makes management both challenging and fun. The animals rely on the plants and the soil the plants grow in to thrive and be productive.

In providing advice, recommendations and information to producers, managers, and beginning farmers, knowledge in these and more areas are essential:

  • Grazing management
  • Pasture planning
  • Forage & weed identification
  • Ruminant nutrition
  • Polyculture cover cropping

What You Need to Know:

I Cannot Consult Effectively Without FIRST Knowing Your Context.

Your context is the very key that unlocks my ability to give you the advice and information you need. My biggest (and probably hardest) job is asking enough questions and getting you talking enough to understand what you have to work with on a daily, seasonally, or annual basis.

I encourage you to do most of the talking, or at least answer the many questions I undoubtedly will have for you!

Knowledge is power, and the more I know, the better I can help you.

Reference materials have their place. However, learning from you, and operating in a participatory, empowering way is more effective and rewarding for both parties. Provided that we understand this is the best way to work, as opposed to top-down, expecting me to know everything and telling you what you must do. The truth is, I don’t know everything! Especially YOUR CONTEXT.

Truly, you know your land, animals, finances, and social contexts far better than I ever will. My job is primarily as a presenter of information, from that to give you advice that hopefully will help guide you in the right direction.

Consulting is about knowing how to listen, and a request to pay you a visit—or two. While a lot can be solved over phone conversations, email-tag, or FaceTime visits, nothing compares with getting my feet on the land to better understand your context.

In short, context is key, questions are fantastic, and knowing more makes my job a whole lot easier.

CONTEXT = CONSULTING = SUCCESS!
